Culver's Franchisee Turned After School Job Into a Career
For our team members, working at Culver’s is not just a job but an opportunity for a successful career. LaVonne Daveler began working at Culver’s of Sun Prairie, WI when she was just 14 years old, and she is now the owner of Culver’s of Cape Coral, FL – SW Pine Island Road.
As a teenager, LaVonne enjoyed the friendly and supportive atmosphere that working at Culver’s offered her. “I loved the hospitality. It truly is like a family. Being that it was my first job, everyone was so welcoming and warm,” she says. “I made so many great friends.”
"I met new faces that would not only turn into colleagues, but into lifelong friends."
The decision to become a Culver’s franchisee and run her own restaurant didn’t happen at age 14, however. LaVonne realized her desire to own a Culver’s during a meeting with her college advisor, who asked LaVonne where she saw herself in the future. LaVonne, who was studying to become a teacher, immediately thought about an upcoming work meeting she had at Culver’s. “I knew at that moment I still wanted to teach, but not necessarily in a classroom,” LaVonne explains. “After graduation, I gave 100% dedication to Culver’s. I knew I wanted to become an owner.”
"I love what I do."
LaVonne entered the Culver’s Franchise Mentoring Program and started on her path to becoming an owner. The final challenge in her training was moving from Wisconsin to Florida to help open a new Culver’s restaurant. It was there in Cape Coral that LaVonne realized she had found the right location to open her own restaurant. With support from her Culver’s family, LaVonne opened her own restaurant in July 2015, where she teaches her team members about hard work and Midwestern hospitality.
